We use a deprecation phase where:
- "ident" means "name" (as it used to mean), except in custom coercion
entries where it already meant "ident".
- "ident" will be made again available (outside situation of
coercions) to mean "ident" at the end of deprecation phase.
Also renaming "as ident" into "as name".

We introduce a class of open binders which includes "x", "x:t", "'pat"
and a class of closed binders which includes "x", "(x:t)", "'pat".
|
|
Add a mli file and uniformize indentation on the way.
|
|
This is not needed anymore after the unification.
|
|
After the gramlib merge and the type-safe interface added to it, the
grammar extension type is redundant; we thus make it private as a
first step on consolidating it with the one in gramlib's.
|
|
Add headers to a few files which were missing them.
|
|
This is in preparation for making the Gramlib interface the canonical
one; see #11647 .
I tried to implement some of the ideas that were floated around in a
chat with Pierre-Marie, suggestions / comments are welcome.

This reverts commit 29919b725262dca76708192bde65ce82860747be.
It was pushed by mistake as part of #11530. Sorry about it.

Instead of just string (and empty strings for tokens without payload)
|
|
Tokens were having a double role:
- the output of the lexer
- the items of grammar entries, especially terminals
Now tokens are the output of the lexer, and this paves the way for
using a richer data type, eg including Loc.t
Patterns, as in Plexing.pattern, only represent patterns (for tokens)
and now have a bit more structure (eg the wildcard is represented
as None, not as "", while a regular pattern for "x" as Some "x")
|
|
This is a pre-requisite to use automated formatting tools such as
`ocamlformat`, also, there were quite a few places where the comments
had basically no effect, thus it was confusing for the developer.
p.s: Reading some comments was a lot of fun :)

- remove duplicate type definitions `gram_assoc`, `gram_position`,
- make global `warning_verbose` variable into a parameter.

This makes the make-based build system stop linking to Camlp5's
gramlib and instead links to our own gramlib.
We use the style done in the packing of `Stdlib` in OCaml 4.07.
As to introduce a minimal amount of noise in history we use an
autogenerated `gramlib__pack` directory.

- New command "Declare Custom Entry bar".
- Entries can have levels.
- Printing is done using a notion of coercion between grammar
entries. This typically corresponds to rules of the form
'Notation "[ x ]" := x (x custom myconstr).' but also
'Notation "{ x }" := x (in custom myconstr, x constr).'.
- Rules declaring idents such as 'Notation "x" := x (in custom myconstr, x ident).'
are natively recognized.
- Rules declaring globals such as 'Notation "x" := x (in custom myconstr, x global).'
are natively recognized.
Incidentally merging ETConstr and ETConstrAsBinder.
Noticed in passing that parsing binder as custom was not done as in
constr.
Probably some fine-tuning still to do (priority of notations,
interactions between scopes and entries, ...). To be tested live
further.
|
|
The parser is stupid and the syntax is almost the same as the previous one.
The only difference is that one needs to wrap OCaml code between { braces }
so that quoting works out of the box.
Files requiring such a syntax are handled specifically by the type system
and need to have a .mlg extension instead of a .ml4 one.

Previously to this patch, `Notation_term` contained information about
both parsing and notation interpretation.
We split notation grammar to a file `parsing/notation_gram` as to make
`interp/` not to depend on some parsing structures such as entries.
|
|
There were a few spurious dependencies on the `Vernac` AST in the
pretyper, we remove them and move `Vernacexpr` and `Extend` to parsing,
where they do belong more.

Util only depends on Ocaml stdlib and Utf8 tables.
Generic pretty printing and loc functions are in Pp.
Generic errors are in Errors.
+ Training white-spaces, useless open, prlist copies random erasure.
Too many "open Errors" on the contrary.

- Added support for recursive notations with binders
- Added support for arbitrary large iterators in recursive notations
- More checks on the use of variables and improved error messages
- Do side-effects in metasyntax only when sure that everything is ok
- Documentation
Note: it seems there were a small bug in match_alist (instances obtained
from matching the first copy of iterator were not propagated).

The choice between camlp4/5 is done during configure with flags
-usecamlp5 (default for the moment) vs. -usecamlp4.
Currently, to have a full camlp4 compatibility, you need to change
all "EXTEND" and "GEXTEND Gram" into "EXTEND Gram", and change "EOI"
into "`EOI" in grammar entries. I've a sed script that does that
(actually the converse), but I prefer to re-think it and check a few
things before branching this sed into the build mechanism.
lib/compat.ml4 is heavily used to hide incompatibilities between camlp4/5
and try to propose a common interface (cf LexerSig / GrammarSig).
A few incompatible quotations have been turned into underlying code
manually, in order to make the IFDEF CAMLP5 THEN ... ELSE ... END
parsable by both camlp4 and 5. See in particular the fate of
<:str_item< declare ... end >>
Stdpp isn't used anymore, but rather Ploc (hidden behind local module Loc).
This forces to use camlp5 > 5.01.

Cf tok.ml, token isn't anymore string*string where first
string encodes the kind of the token, but rather a nice
sum type. Unfortunately, string*string (a.k.a Plexing.pattern)
is still used in some places of Camlp5, so there's a few
conversions back and forth. But the penalty should be quite low,
and having nicer tokens helps in the forthcoming integration
of support for camlp4 post 3.10

- Many of them were broken, some of them after Pierre B's rework
of mli for ocamldoc, but not only (many bad annotation, many files
with no svn property about Id, etc)
- Useless for those of us that work with git-svn (and a fortiori
in a forthcoming git-only setting)
- Even in svn, they seem to be of little interest

separators (see Notations.v in test-suite).
