2019-02-17Separate variance and universe fields in inductives.Gaëtan Gilbert
I think the usage looks cleaner this way.
2019-02-05Make Program a regular attributeMaxime Dénès
We remove all calls to `Flags.is_program_mode` except one (to compute the default value of the attribute). Everything else is passed explicitely, and we remove the special logic in the interpretation loop to set/unset the flag. This is especially important since the value of the flag has an impact on proof modes, so on the separation of parsing and execution phases.
2019-02-04Enrich implicits for instancesJasper Hugunin
For compatibility, also * Adjust implicits on equiv_transitivity and equiv_symmetry, and in some closed bugs * Add overlay for HoTT setting Arguments on some instances.

2019-01-22Remove useless freshness check in new_instanceMaxime Dénès
2019-01-22Distinguish ASTs for Instance and Declare InstanceMaxime Dénès
This makes code paths clearer (we still factorize a lot of the treatment), and we seize the opportunity to forbid anonymous `Declare Instance` which is not a documented construction, and seems to make little sense in practice.
2019-01-04Handle local definitions in implicit arguments of InstanceJasper Hugunin
2018-12-09[doc] Enable Warning 50 [incorrect doc comment] and fix comments.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
This is a pre-requisite to use automated formatting tools such as `ocamlformat`, also, there were quite a few places where the comments had basically no effect, thus it was confusing for the developer. p.s: Reading some comments was a lot of fun :)
2018-11-30[vernac] [hooks] Refactor towards optional hooks.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
We make `declaration_hook`s optional arguments everywhere, and thus we avoid some "fake" functions having to be passed. This identifies positively the code really using hooks [funind, rewrite, coercions, program, and canonicals] and helps moving toward some hope of reification.
2018-11-23s/let _ =/let () =/ in some places (mostly goptions related)Gaëtan Gilbert

2018-11-09Merge PR #8601: Move bound universe names to abstract contextsGaëtan Gilbert
2018-11-09Use arrays of names instead of lists in abstract universe names.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
There is little point in having a list, as there is virtually no sharing nor expansion of bound universe names. This representation is thus more compact.
2018-11-09Adding universe names to polymorphic entry instances.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
2018-11-08Standardize handling of Automatic Introduction.Jasper Hugunin
This fixes #8791. We explicitly specify for intro the names of binders which are given by the user. This still can suffer from spurious collisions, see #8819.
2018-11-06[program] extend obligation to give back a mapping from obligations toMatthieu Sozeau
terms This is necessary for programs like Equations that call add_definition and want to later update in their hook some separate datastructures which refer to the obligations that are defined by Program. We give back a map from obligation name to a constr defined in the program's universe state which the hook returns as well. (Obligation names also correspond to undefined evars in the original terms through Obligations.eterm_obligations). Using this, I can avoid ucontext_of_aucontext in Equations, allowing PR #8601 to go through.

2018-10-19Deprecating Global.type_of_global_in_context.Hugo Herbelin
Removing a few Global.env in the way.
2018-10-18[api] Qualify access to `Nametab`Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
In general, `Nametab` is not a module you want to open globally as it exposes very generic identifiers such as `push` or `global`. Thus, we remove all global opens and qualify `Nametab` access. The patch is small and confirms the hypothesis that `Nametab` access happens in few places thus it doesn't need a global open. It is also very convenient to be able to use `grep` to see accesses to the namespace table.
2018-10-16{Univops -> Vars}.universes_of_constrGaëtan Gilbert
It's basically an occur check so it makes sense to put it in vars
2018-10-11[vernac] Remove unused abstraction from declaration_hook type.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
"Declaration" hooks can be polymorphic on their return type, however this facility doesn't seem used in the codebase. We thus remove the polymorphism with the hope to be able to reify the control later on.
2018-10-05[kernel] Remove section paths from `KerName.t`Maxime Dénès
We remove sections paths from kernel names. This is a cleanup as most of the times this information was unused. This implies a change in the Kernel API and small user visible changes with regards to tactic qualification. In particular, the removal of "global discharge" implies a large cleanup of code. Additionally, the change implies that some machinery in `library` and `safe_typing` must now take an `~in_section` parameter, as to provide the information whether a section is open or not.
2018-09-29[classes] Split large `new_instance` function up.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
`Classes.new_instance` is one of the largest functions of the codebase; we split it up and reduce indentation. This will help further cleanups. This PR should introduce no code changes other than splitting the function up.
2018-09-27[api] Remove unnecessary type alias introduced in 8.9Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
This was introduced in #7820 and it is not needed indeed. As 8.9 was not released we don't need to perform a deprecation phase.
2018-07-02hints: add Hint Variables/Constants Opaque/Transparent commandsMatthieu Sozeau
This gives user control on the transparent state of a hint db. Can override defaults more easily (report by J. H. Jourdan). For "core", declare that variables can be unfolded, but no constants (ensures compatibility with previous auto which allowed conv on closed terms) Document Hint Variables
2018-06-26universes_of_constr don't include universes of monomorphic constantsGaëtan Gilbert
Apparently it was not useful. I don't remember what I was thinking when I added it.
2018-06-18Remove reference name type.Maxime Dénès
reference was defined as Ident or Qualid, but the qualid type already permits empty paths. So we had effectively two representations for unqualified names, that were not seen as equal by eq_reference. We remove the reference type and replace its uses by qualid.
2018-06-12[api] Misctypes removal: several moves:Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
- move_location to proofs/logic. - intro_pattern_naming to Namegen.
2018-05-31[api] Move `Constrexpr` to the `interp` module.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
Continuing the interface cleanup we place `Constrexpr` in the internalization module, which is the one that eliminates it. This slims down `pretyping` considerably, including removing the `Univdecls` module which existed only due to bad dependency ordering in the first place. Thanks to @ Skyskimmer we also remove a duplicate `univ_decl` definition among `Misctypes` and `UState`. This is mostly a proof of concept yet as it depends on quite a few patches of the tree. For sure some tweaks will be necessary, but it should be good for review now. IMO the tree is now in a state where we can could easy eliminate more than 10 modules without any impact, IMHO this is a net saving API-wise and would help people to understand the structure of the code better.

2018-04-26[api] Move `hint_info_expr` to `Typeclasses`.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
`hint_info_expr`, `hint_info_gen` do conceptually belong to the typeclasses modules and should be able to be used without a dependency on the concrete vernacular syntax.
2018-04-23Merge PR #7152: [api] Remove dependency of library on Vernacexpr.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
2018-04-17Deprecate mixing univ minimization and evm normalization functions.Gaëtan Gilbert
Normalization sounds like it should be semantically noop.
2018-04-06[api] Remove dependency of library on Vernacexpr.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
Morally, `library` should not depend on the vernacular definition. This will also create problems when trying to modularize the codebase due to the cycle [vernacs depend for example on constrexprs]. The fix is fortunately easy.
2018-03-31[econstr] Forbid calling `to_constr` in open terms.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
We forbid calling `EConstr.to_constr` on terms that are not evar-free, as to progress towards enforcing the invariant that `Constr.t` is evar-free. [c.f. #6308] Due to compatibility constraints we provide an optional parameter to `to_constr`, `abort` which can be used to overcome this restriction until we fix all parts of the code. Now, grepping for `~abort:false` should return the questionable parts of the system. Not a lot of places had to be fixed, some comments: - problems with the interface due to `Evd/Constr` [`Evd.define` being the prime example] do seem real! - inductives also look bad with regards to `Constr/EConstr`. - code in plugins needs work. A notable user of this "feature" is `Obligations/Program` that seem to like to generate kernel-level entries with free evars, then to scan them and workaround this problem by generating constants.
2018-03-09[located] Push inner locations in `reference` to a CAst.t node.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
The `reference` type contains some ad-hoc locations in its constructors, but there is no reason not to handle them with the standard attribute container provided by `CAst.t`. An orthogonal topic to this commit is whether the `reference` type should contain a location or not at all. It seems that many places would become a bit clearer by splitting `reference` into non-located `reference` and `lreference`, however some other places become messier so we maintain the current status-quo for now.
2018-03-09[located] More work towards using CAst.tEmilio Jesus Gallego Arias
We continue with the work of #402 and #6745 and update most of the remaining parts of the AST: - module declarations - intro patterns - top-level sentences Now, parsed documents should be full annotated by `CAst` nodes.

2018-03-05Sanitize universe declaration in Context (stop using a ref...)Gaëtan Gilbert
When there is more than one variable to declare we stop trying to attach global universes (ie monomorphic or section polymorphic) to one of them.
