2019-05-10[api] Remove 8.10 deprecations.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
Some of them are significant so presumably it will take a bit of effort to fix overlays. I left out the removal of `nf_enter` for now as MTac2 needs some serious porting in order to avoid it.
2019-03-14Add relevance marks on binders.Gaëtan Gilbert
Kernel should be mostly correct, higher levels do random stuff at times.
2019-02-17Separate variance and universe fields in inductives.Gaëtan Gilbert
I think the usage looks cleaner this way.
2018-12-17Stop printing Monomorphic/Polymorphic in Print.Gaëtan Gilbert
You can tell which it is from the `@{}` if you really care, and seeing `Monomorphic List (A:Type)` with no indication that `Monomorphic` is about universes can confuse people.

2018-11-23Local universes for opaque polymorphic constants.Gaëtan Gilbert
2018-11-23s/let _ =/let () =/ in some places (mostly goptions related)Gaëtan Gilbert
2018-11-16Print universe names in subtyping error instead of Var(x).Gaëtan Gilbert
2018-10-31[nametab] Move global_dir_reference to NametabEmilio Jesus Gallego Arias
This type is "private" to the Nametab, which manages it. It thus makes sense IMHO to live there.
2018-10-10Miscellaneous refinements/cleaning of module printing.Hugo Herbelin
This refines the fix to #2169 by distinguishing the short and non-short printing modes. This prepares functionalization of printers by always passing env rather than setting env to None in short mode. This is not strictly necessary for the env which is not used for printing global references but it shall be more consistent in style when passing e.g. the nametab functionally. We however keep the fallback printer used in case of error while printing: due to missing registration of submodule fields in the nametab, printing with types does not work if there are references to an inner module.
2018-09-21Store universe binder names as a mere list of names.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
This is the only information we care about. The printing mechanism is only called on polymorphic constants, as the naming of global monomorphic levels is performed in another module.
2018-09-21Removing calls to AUContext.instance.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
We simply declare the bound universes with their user-facing name in the evarmap and call all printing functions on uninstantiated terms. We had to tweak the universe name declaring function so that it would work properly with bound universe variables and handle sections correctly. This changes the output of polymorphic definitions with unnamed universe variables. Now they are printed as Var(i) instead of the Module.n uid that came from their absolute name.
2018-07-25Remove himsg.pr_puniverses, use @{} for universe printing in errorsMaxime Dénès
Replaces #6401.
2018-06-23Using more general information for primitive records.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
This brings more compatibility with handling of mutual primitive records in the kernel.
2018-05-25Remove some occurrences of Evd.emptyMaxime Dénès
We address the easy ones, but they should probably be all removed.
2018-05-17Split off Universes functions dealing with names.Gaëtan Gilbert
This API is a bit strange, I expect it will change at some point.
2018-03-06Deprecate UState aliases in Evd.Gaëtan Gilbert

2018-02-10Simplification: cumulativity information is variance information.Gaëtan Gilbert
Since cumulativity of an inductive type is the universe constraints which make a term convertible with its universe-renamed copy, the only constraints we can get are between a universe and its copy. As such we do not need to be able to represent arbitrary constraints between universes and copied universes in a double-sized ucontext, instead we can just keep around an array describing whether a bound universe is covariant, invariant or irrelevant (CIC has no contravariant conversion rule). Printing is fairly obtuse and should be improved: when we print the CumulativityInfo we add marks to the universes of the instance: = for invariant, + for covariant and * for irrelevant. ie Record Foo@{i j k} := { foo : Type@{i} -> Type@{j} }. Print Foo. gives Cumulative Record Foo : Type@{max(i+1, j+1)} := Build_Foo { foo : Type@{i} -> Type@{j} } (* =i +j *k |= *)
2017-12-23[api] Also deprecate constructors of Decl_kinds.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
Unfortunately OCaml doesn't deprecate the constructors of a type when the type alias is deprecated. In this case it means that we don't get rid of the kernel dependency unless we deprecate the constructors too.
2017-12-14Fixing a bug of Print for inductive types with let-ins in parameters.Hugo Herbelin
Adding a "let-in"-sensitive function hnf_prod_applist_assum to instantiate parameters and using it for printing. Thanks to PMP for reporting.

2017-11-29[lib] [api] Introduce record for `object_prefix`Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
This is a minor cleanup adding a record in a try to structure the state living in `Lib`.
2017-11-25Allow local universe renaming in Print.Gaëtan Gilbert
2017-11-21[printing] Deprecate all printing functions accessing the global proof.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
We'd like to handle proofs functionally we thus recommend not to use printing functions without an explicit context. We also adapt most of the code, making more explicit where the printing environment is coming from. An open task is to refactor some code so we gradually make the `Pfedit.get_current_context ()` disappear.
2017-11-13[api] Another large deprecation, `Nameops`Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
2017-11-06[api] Move structures deprecated in the API to the core.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
We do up to `Term` which is the main bulk of the changes.
2017-11-06[api] Deprecate all legacy uses of Names in core.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
This will allow to merge back `Names` with `API.Names`
2017-09-28Efficient fresh name generation relying on sets.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
The old algorithm was relying on list membership, which is O(n). This was nefarious for terms with many binders. We use instead sets in O(log n).
2017-07-26Removing template polymorphism for definitions.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
The use of template polymorphism in constants was quite limited, as it only applied to definitions that were exactly inductive types without any parameter whatsoever. Furthermore, it seems that following the introduction of polymorphic definitions, the code path enforced regular polymorphism as soon as the type of a definition was given, which was in practice almost always. Removing this feature had no observable effect neither on the test-suite, nor on any development that we monitor on Travis. I believe it is safe to assume it was nowadays useless.
2017-07-13The only abstraction-breaking function in Univ is now AUContext.instance.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
2017-07-11Safe API for accessing universe constraints of global references.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
Instead of returning either an instance or the set of constraints, we rather return the corresponding abstracted context. We also push back all uses of abstraction-breaking calls from these functions out of the kernel.

2017-06-16Add printing of cumulativity in inductive typesAmin Timany
2017-06-16Using UInfoInd for universes in inductive typesAmin Timany
It stores both universe constraints and subtyping information for blocks of inductive declarations. At this stage the there is no inference or checking implemented. The subtyping information simply encodes equality of levels for the condition of subtyping.
2017-05-24[option] Remove support for non-synchronous options.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
Inspired by https://coq.inria.fr/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=5229 , which this PR solves, I propose to remove support for non-synchronous options. It seems the few uses of `optsync = false` we legacy and shouldn't have any impact. Moreover, non synchronous options may create particularly tricky situations as for instance, they won't be propagated to workers.

2017-03-21[pp] Move terminal-specific tagging to the toplevel.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
Previously, tags were associated to terminal styles, which doesn't make sense on terminal-free pretty printing scenarios. This commit moves tag interpretation to the toplevel terminal handling module `Topfmt`.
2017-03-21[pp] Prepare for serialization, remove opaque glue.Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
We also remove flushing operations `msg_with`, now the flushing responsibility belong to the owner of the formatter.
2017-03-21[pp] Replace `Pp.Tag` by `Ppstyle.tag` = `string list`Emilio Jesus Gallego Arias
This is what has always been used, so it doesn't represent a functional change. This is just a preliminary patch, but many more possibilities could be done wrt tags.
2017-02-14Introducing contexts parameterized by the inner term type.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
This allows the decoupling of the notions of context containing kernel terms and context containing tactic-level terms.
2016-10-01Fix bug #4661: Cannot mask the absolute name.Pierre-Marie Pédrot
The patch is quite dumb: it essentially consists in alpha-renaming bound module names when printing a functor, by checking that the name was not already present, and generating a fresh one otherwise.

2016-01-11CLEANUP: kernel/context.ml{,i}Matej Kosik
The structure of the Context module was refined in such a way that: - Types and functions related to rel-context declarations were put into the Context.Rel.Declaration module. - Types and functions related to rel-context were put into the Context.Rel module. - Types and functions related to named-context declarations were put into the Context.Named.Declaration module. - Types and functions related to named-context were put into the Context.Named module. - Types and functions related to named-list-context declarations were put into Context.NamedList.Declaration module. - Types and functions related to named-list-context were put into Context.NamedList module. Some missing comments were added to the *.mli file. The output of ocamldoc was checked whether it looks in a reasonable way. "TODO: cleanup" was removed The order in which are exported functions listed in the *.mli file was changed. (as in a mature modules, this order usually is not random) The order of exported functions in Context.{Rel,Named} modules is now consistent. (as there is no special reason why that order should be different) The order in which are functions defined in the *.ml file is the same as the order in which they are listed in the *.mli file. (as there is no special reason to define them in a different order) The name of the original fold_{rel,named}_context{,_reverse} functions was changed to better indicate what those functions do. (Now they are called Context.{Rel,Named}.fold_{inside,outside}) The original comments originally attached to the fold_{rel,named}_context{,_reverse} did not full make sense so they were updated. Thrown exceptions are now documented. Naming of formal parameters was made more consistent across different functions. Comments of similar functions in different modules are now consistent. Comments from *.mli files were copied to *.ml file. (We need that information in *.mli files because that is were ocamldoc needs it. It is nice to have it also in *.ml files because when we are using Merlin and jump to the definion of the function, we can see the comments also there and do not need to open a different file if we want to see it.) When we invoke ocamldoc, we instruct it to generate UTF-8 HTML instead of (default) ISO-8859-1. (UTF-8 characters are used in our ocamldoc markup) "open Context" was removed from all *.mli and *.ml files. (Originally, it was OK to do that. Now it is not.) An entry to dev/doc/changes.txt file was added that describes how the names of types and functions have changed.
