The kernel no longer has to read the configure flag, its value can now
be overriden by a coqtop/coqc argument, and more generally is easier to
set from a toplevel (such as the checker).
We also add a `-bytecode-compiler` flag.

This eases grep to implement a different location system.
|
|
Closes #7380. Ubuntu 18.04 and Debian Buster will ship this OCaml
version so it makes sense we bump our dependency to 4.05.0 as we can
use some newer compiler features.

This is a partial resurrection of #6423 but only for the kernel.
IMHO, we pay a bit of price for this but it is a good safety
measure.
Only warning "4: fragile pattern matching" and "44: open hides a type"
are disabled.
We would like to enable 44 for sure once we do some alias cleanup.

There was a function used by the pretyper that did not check that the flag was
set, leading to native compilation even when the configure flag was off.
|

Instead, we properly register a printer for such exception and update
the code.
|

This seems a safe choice as of today, but more advanced users would
like to tweak it, or we could even refine it by a configure option if
desired.

This is the continuation of #244, we now deprecate `CErrors.error`,
the single entry point in Coq is `user_err`.
The rationale is to allow for easier grepping, and to ease a future
cleanup of error messages. In particular, we would like to
systematically classify all error messages raised by Coq and be sure
they are properly documented.
We restore the two functions removed in #244 to improve compatibility,
but mark them deprecated.

On the user side, coqtop and coqc take a list of warning names or categories
after -w. No prefix means activate the warning, a "-" prefix means deactivate
it, and "+" means turn the warning into an error. Special categories include
"all", and "default" which contains the warnings enabled by default.
We also provide a vernacular Set Warnings which takes the same flags as argument.
Note that coqc now prints warnings.
The name and category of a warning are printed with the warning itself.
On the developer side, Feedback.msg_warning is still accessible, but the
recommended way to print a warning is in two steps:
1) create it by:

This patch splits pretty printing representation from IO operations.
- `Pp` is kept in charge of the abstract pretty printing representation.
- The `Feedback` module provides interface for doing printing IO.
The patch continues work initiated for 8.5 and has the following effects:
- The following functions in `Pp`: `pp`, `ppnl`, `pperr`, `pperrnl`,
`pperr_flush`, `pp_flush`, `flush_all`, `msg`, `msgnl`, `msgerr`,
`msgerrnl`, `message` are removed. `Feedback.msg_*` functions must be
used instead.
- Feedback provides different backends to handle output, currently,
`stdout`, `emacs` and CoqIDE backends are provided.
- Clients cannot specify flush policy anymore, thus `pp_flush` et al are
gone.
- `Feedback.feedback` takes an `edit_or_state_id` instead of the old
mix.
Lightly tested: Test-suite passes, Proof General and CoqIDE seem to work.

On a machine with only 1GB of memory (e.g. in a VM), the compiler might be
abruptly killed by a segfault. We were not getting any feedback in that
case, making it harder to debug.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Since Guillaume's, launching coqtop without -native-compiler and call
native_compute would mean recompiling silently all dependencies, even if they
had been precompiled (e.g. the stdlib).
The new semantics is that -native-compiler disables separate compilation of the
current library, but still tries to load precompiled dependencies. If loading
fails when the flag is on, coqtop stays silent.

Was making the study of bugs like #4139 painful.
Now printing a better error message when a compiled file is missing.
|
|
Instead of checking if the native compiler directory exists before creating it,
we simply create it by default and catch the potential exception due to its
presence.
|
|
|

Patch by CJ on bugzilla. CUnix.sys_command doesn't rely on a shell, so extra
care with cmd.exe vs sh is no longer required.
|
|
|
|
Ocaml does not remove the .cmi file if compilation fails, thus causing
subsequent native compilations to fail due to mismatching interfaces.
For the sake of homogeneity, also remove the .cmo/.cmxs file along the way.
|

The call to the native compiler can fail due to the sheer amounts of -I
options passed to it. Indeed, it is easy to get the command line to exceed
512KB, thus causing various operating systems to reject it. This commit
avoids the issue by only passing the -I options that matter for the
currently compiled code.
Note that, in the worst case, this commit is still not sufficient on
Windows (32KB max), but this worst case should be rather uncommon and thus
can be ignored for now.
For the record, the command-line size mandated by Posix is 4KB.

With ocaml 4.01, the 'unused open' warning also checks the mli :-)
Beware: some open are reported as useless when compiling with camlp5,
but are necessary for compatibility with camlp4. These open are now
marked with a comment.

- Revised Coqtop.parse_args in a cleaner and lighter style
- Improved error message in case of argument parse failure:
* tell which option is expecting a related argument
* in case of unknown options, warn about them all at once
* do not hide the previous error messages by filling the
screen with usage(). Instead, suggest the use of --help.
- Specialized boolean config field Coq_config.arch_is_win32
- Faster Envars.coqlib, which is back to (unit->string), and
just access Flags.coqlib. Caveat: it must be initialized once
via Envars.set_coqlib
- Avoid keeping an opened channel to the "revision" file
- Direct load of theories/init/prelude.vo, no detour via Loadpath
Beware : ./configure must be runned after this commit

Warning: the "retroknowledge" mechanism has not been ported to the native
compiler, because integers and persistent arrays will ultimately be defined as
primitive constructions. Until then, computation on numbers may be faster using
the VM, since it takes advantage of machine integers.
